The 2nd round of the class 5A playoffs features a rematch of two of the most talented teams in the state of Mississippi-and that’s where we’re headed this week. The Ridgeland Titans (7-2), led by dual-threat quarterback Zy McDonald (nephew of the great Deuce McAlister) travel to Philadelphia to take on the Neshoba Central Rockets (9-1), led by running back Jarquez Hunter, who has amassed over 1,400 yards on the ground this season with 20 rushing touchdowns.
The Titans held on in the regular season matchup on Oct. 23rd to defeat the Rockets by a 33-29 final score and lead the all-time series 9-7. However, the Rockets have won 2 of the last 3 meetings. This game will also feature a contrast in styles offensively, pitting the wide-open spread offense Ridgeland likes to run against the old-school rushing attack of Neshoba Central. And both defenses field their fair share of athletes also, with both D’s combining for nearly 100 tackles for loss and 25 quarterback sacks.
