2020 High School Football Stat Leaders, Factoids, News and Notes – September 24th, 2020

Mississippi isn’t new to making national rankings in high school football, so let’s take a look at some stats, factoids, and some info you may find helpful as we near the end of September.

  • Brandon’s 6-0 win over MC Friday night was the lowest total points in a game between the two teams in series history. The series is now tied, with both teams winning 9 games each in the series.
  • Sebastopol is off to their first 3-0 start since the 2008 season.
  • Ocean Springs is off to their first 3-0 start since the 2014 season.
  • Warren Central is off to their first 3-0 start since the 2016 season, when the Vikings started 6-0.
  • This is the first 0-3 start for the Pearl Pirates since the 2014 season. They did, however, finish that season 11-4 and made it to the 2nd round of the 6A playoffs.
  • NW Rankin improved to 5-0 all time against Ridgeland with a 48-22 smashing of the Titans, handing them their first loss of 2020. The Cougars average margin of victory in all five meetings is 31 points. WOW.
  • The Leake Academy Rebels are off to their 1st 5-0 start since the 2010 season. They are seeking their first 6-0 start since 2006 when they started 12-0 and finished the season 12-1.
  • Wilkinson County Christian school is 5-0 for the 1st time since 1992, when they finished the season 7-2.
Mississippi is again making waves in the national high school football statistical databases
  • Marquis Crosby, senior running back at Presbyterian Christian, is 2nd in the nation in total rushing yards and rushing yards per game. Crosby is averaging 245 rushing yards per game. He is also tied for 17th nationally with 84 total points with Hartfield Academy junior running back Xavier Davis.  Davis is also 14th nationally in total TD’s scored with 14 TD’s this season. Guess who joins him? Crosby with 14 TD’s total this season.
  • Bryson Moore, senior running back at Cathedral, is listed at 42nd in the nation in total rushing yards.
  • Christian Wright, junior wideout at Cathedral, is 16th nationally in receiving yards, 93rd in yards receiving per game, and 50th in the country in receiving TD’s with 7
  • Blake Kirby, senior quarterback at Magnolia Heights, is 4th in the nation in scoring with 108 total points this season. He’s also 4th in the nation in total TD’s with 18.
  • Cameron Shaw, senior middle linebacker at Presbyterian Christian, is 3rd nationally in interceptions with 6 so far this season. Ques McNeal, senor cornerback at Choctaw Central, is tied for 18th nationally with several others including Resurrection’s Will Clemens, a senior free safety.
  • As a team, Cathedral is 24th nationally in total yardage with 2282 total yards this season.
  • Presbyterian Christian is 4th in the nation in rushing yardage, rushing for 1826 yards so far this season. Cathedral is 25th in the country in rushing yards with 1411 yards on the ground so far.
  • Nanih Waiya is 36th in the country in total sacks with 17 team sacks this season.
  • Greenville St. Joe and Magnolia Heights are in a tie with several schools for 24th nationally in team interceptions with 9 picks. Jackson Prep comes in ranked 50th nationally with 8 interceptions.
